Adventure Games That Respect a Short Commute

Adventure Games That Respect a Short Commute

September 7, 2026 · Marek Nowak

Not every adventure game assumes you've got a free evening. Some are built in chunks you can actually play on a fifteen-minute bus ride, and those are the ones I end up finishing.

Hollow Tide is my current favorite for this. It saves anywhere, the puzzles come in self-contained pieces, and the calm pace means stopping mid-area never feels jarring. You drift, you solve one thing, you put the phone away.

The enemy of the short-session adventure is the forced setpiece — those unskippable twenty-minute sequences that assume you're on a couch. A good mobile adventure breaks its story into beats and lets you leave between them.

If you're building a commute library, look for anywhere-save support and clear chapter markers. Those two features tell you a developer thought about how people actually play on a phone, which is half the battle.

Trust me, playing in the gaps of your day is more satisfying than it sounds. Little worlds, a few minutes at a time, and they still add up to something.
